Voice Over Industry Trends. Quantity vs. Quality

Who better to ask about voiceover business trends than someone who’s in the middle of the voice over industry? In tomorrow’s podcast interview ( Tuesday January 6th) I ask Voicebank.net’s Chris Miyamoto that question. Since he’s in sales for the company, he’s constantly meeting with producers and advertising executives.

Chris says, “One of the questions I always ask is what would you like to see (or hear) more of with voice talent? And you know what they say? More quality talent.”

You’d think with the plethora of the voices auditioning there would be plenty of talent. Perhaps because so many more beginners are in the mix it just seems like experienced voice actors are few and far between.

Chris gives some great advice on what we need to do to market our voices like:

-Stay competitive. Don’t take any audition for granted. Be prepared every time.

-Do some theatrical performing. Casting directors often go to shows to find new VOICE talent because they’re looking for artistic training.

-Don’t rely on the internet for your marketing. Compliment that with face to face meetings with those that hire at events and through contacts. If you talked to them face to face chances are they’ll remember you for an upcoming project.
