It’s Friday afternoon, June 6, 2006. Oprah’s on. The voice behind Elmo is her guest, Kevin Clash. A handsome, young, tall 45 year old African American man. Kevin says most people expect Elmo to be a short, bald guy.

“This is the first time that Kevin Clash has been seen with Elmo.” Oprah tells her audience.

How do you like your profession? Oprah asks. “It’s a phenomenal profession, being a voice of a puppet.” Kevin says.

I was excited to hear all about Kevin’s voice over career. Instead, he told her it all started when he was a kid, building puppets and went on to talk about his puppet career. I guess this is a subset of the voice over profession. A very lucrative one at that.
