Magic Behind The Mic. The Subtlety and Power of Foley in the Radio Play
December 8, 2008 by: Tracy PattinIn tomorrow’s (Tuesday December 9) podcast interview on Foley (Part 2), BBC Radio Director/Producer Martin Jarvis continues (from last week’s podcast on foley) talking about the power of foley and its subtlety in the radio play. Jarvis says, “Radio is about truth of the character in communicating an idea and the thread of sound so that the listener doesn’t say”, ‘That was a good sound effect’, “but says”, ‘that was a good scene.’ “Foley helps to build a picture of the entire scene.” Tune in tomorrow and find out how sound effects are done and how they create magic behind the mic. As Martin Jarvis so eloquently puts it, “Radio isn’t about sound, it’s about delivering movies in the mind.”
