Live Streaming: New Opportunity for Voice Talent
February 24, 2010 by: Tracy PattinIt looks like a small broadcast TV studio. Lots of cameras, cable, wires and curtains. People running around with headsets on, a control room with those big windows. Only this is all internet. It’s TheStream.TV’s studio. Live stream TV essentially is live internet TV. It airs in real time instead of recorded shows you see on sites like YouTube . The Stream has a line-up of shows from Coin-Op TV (a wacky show about video games) , The Game Show, The Real Cool Club and others.
The interesting thing is they engage their viewing audience from the get-go making them the perennial guest. One person on each show sits at the computer with a camera overhead, reading and reacting to the plethora of comments from the chat room proving to be as entertaining as what the hosts are saying and who they’re interviewing.
They have sponsors but it’s still an uphill climb. According to LiveStream. Tv’s Brian Grammo, “It’s a technology that is still working out the kinks but it’s getting better and better.”
So what are the possibilities for voice talent? Perhaps they’ll be used for promos just like broadcast television. And if advertising kicks in, then that’s a whole new opportunity for voice actors.
Just like so much of this emerging technology, it’s a wait and see.

New Technologies: Pros and Cons in today’s Voice-Over business
Hi Tracy,
Love your point about emerging technology and keeping us up to date.
Streaming is also hitting the traditional radio model as well. I recently provided voice tracking for a new jazz show (if you go to http://78.40.39.146:8010/ you can click on Listen and that will let you download a file you can open in iTunes). While anyone who has the link can listen, the real target is providing very high quality streamed audio to a very focused audience – specific high end audio customers.
On the streaming TV side, I do hope they’ll use voicing for promos. It’s my only chance. I really do have a face made for radio

Ahh not sure how we got labeled ‘wacky’ but COIN-OP TV LIVE is an Internet TV show about the video game industry, people and events. We are fun and loose – thanks for the acknowledgment – and yes all new media stuff is an uphill battle!

Didn’t think to include this in my last post but we had Voice-Over Actors Tara Platt and Yuri Lowenthal as guests on COIN-OP TV LIVE episode 320 which can be found here -

“HollisterGal seriously needs to get a life, she constantly does these insults all over Yahoo Answers, so just ignore her. I’m sorry, I can’t answer your question, but I just wanted to let you know to ignore the rude comment and a good modeling agency won’t make you pay if they really want you, they’ll build a portfolio FOR YOU. Never handout money to any modeling agency until you do thorough research, because many agencies have been fraud. Good luck!”
